EXPLORE LIFE IN FRANCE
Hamilton lets you live in French.

In Hamilton, you have the opportunity to live and thrive in French. With a population of 530,635, French speakers in Hamilton are very much a part of the community, as there are 9,655 people whose mother tongue is French. In addition to the Franco-Ontarians living in Hamilton, the three largest Francophone immigrant communities come from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, France, and Haiti.
Hamilton is a designated city under Ontario’s French Language Services Act. Provincial services (health cards, driver’s licenses, etc.) are therefore available in French. Federal government services are also available in French. For example, you can obtain a driver’s license or a birth certificate in French. If you need information about a government program, you can also request that it be provided to you in French.
In Hamilton, many Francophone organizations and businesses can assist you in French. There are also several Francophone ethnocultural groups and associations, media outlets, and places of worship that will welcome you in French.
